The fellowship is awarded by the German Alexander von Humboldt foundation which has a long standing tradition of fostering academic cooperation between excellent scientists from Germany and abroad. The selection of Chris Slootweg is a recognition of his academic record and introduces him into the 'Humboldt Family' which, amongst others, enables German PhD students to apply for Humboldt post-doc grants to work at the Slootweg laboratory.

Guest researcher in Regensburg

Slootweg will use his grant to travel to the University of Regensburg for a total of six months in the coming three years. He will be a guest researcher at the groups of professors Manfred Scheer and Robert Wolf, both world leaders in main-group chemistry, and organophosphorus chemistry in particular. Prof. Scheer is the recipient of an ERC Advanced grant, and Chairman of the Wöhler-Vereinigung für Anorganische Chemie (the Inorganic Chemistry Division of the GDCh, the German Chemical Society). Prof. Wolf is recipient of an ERC Consolidator Grant. Slootweg will visit their labs to strenghten ongoing collaborations and foster new ones, including some teaching and supervision of the local PhD students.
